“Gardening has been a part of my life since I was a kid.”
I didn't realize it had made the impact it did till much later. I grew up helping my parents in the small garden plot that we built, but never spent much time thinking about it. I've since then went on to serve in the Navy as a helicopter search and rescue swimmer, and continued as a rescue specialist in the civilian world. On slow duty days, I found myself reading more and more books on small scale agriculture, sustainability and soil science.
“A few years ago, I finally decided to go to the VA, after a very long internal struggle.”
After my exams I was found to be 100% disabled, and soon after realized I wasn't going to be able to keep doing the job I had been trained for. I started gardening as a way to train myself to do something that would still help those around me. After years working in EMS it was hard to imagine myself doing something just for me, or even worse retiring. I knew I would miss the camaraderie I had working with others to accomplish a mission. I started Abby’s Acre to help myself and others find that sense of responsibility through work that will heal the earth and communities around us. I appreciate you visiting our page, and if there's anything I can do to help you, please don't hesitate to ask.
